Data

Original UK solar data

Datasets built from MCS, DESNZ and Ofgem sources — cost by region, export rates over time, payback by local authority. Published with a stated methodology and free to reuse with attribution.

Free to use with attribution

Everything on these pages is published under a Creative Commons BY 4.0 licence. Use the figures, republish the charts, quote the tables: credit UKSolars and link to the dataset page. If you are a journalist and need a specific cut of the data, ask rather than estimating it.

Each dataset states the source release it was built from, the date the extraction was run, and the method. So it can be rebuilt and checked rather than taken on trust.

Common questions

Can I use these figures in an article?
Yes. Everything published here is free to use with attribution to UKSolars and a link to the dataset page, under a Creative Commons BY 4.0 licence. If you need a cut we have not published, ask: we would rather produce it than have someone reverse-engineer it wrongly.
Where does the underlying data come from?
The live cost index uses DESNZ cost statistics extracted from the MCS installation database; the deployment index uses DESNZ regional renewable statistics; and the SEG tracker uses Ofgem and supplier publications. Each page names its exact release and extraction date.
How often is each one updated?
Each page states its own cadence. The cost and local deployment indices are annual because their official source tables are annual; tariff and funding trackers can change more often. Every live dataset carries a public change history.
