Your roof and your property

Solar panels on a listed building

Not a government service. UKSolars is an independent company. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting on behalf of the UK Government, DESNZ, Ofgem, MCS or any local authority. We do not administer any grant scheme, we cannot approve an application, and we never charge for anything a government provides free.

How we are paid. We are paid a fee by installers when we introduce a homeowner who asks for a quote. It does not change your price, and we are not paid more by one installer than another for the same job. In full.

Short answer

Solar on a listed property needs early advice from the local planning authority. Work affecting the listed building may require listed building consent and may also require planning permission. Prepare a design that explains visibility, historic fabric, cable routes, fixings and reversibility before ordering equipment.

Start with the local authority’s conservation team before commissioning a final layout. Work affecting a listed building may require listed building consent and planning permission.

Show the significance of the roof, visibility, cable and inverter routes, fixing method and reversibility. Explore less prominent roof slopes, outbuildings or ground mounting where appropriate, but do not assume any option will be accepted.

Ask what evidence an application needs. Keep consent conditions with the property records and ensure the installer follows the approved drawings.

Consent is site-specific

Another listed house with panels is context, not permission for yours.

We are not taking quote requests yet

We will not collect your details until we can name the installers who would receive them, so there is no form here to fill in. What we can do is tell you when something changes: a scheme opening, an export rate moving, or the quote form going live.

Email me when a grant, export rate or rule on this site changes. Nothing else, and my address is never passed to anyone. We never sell your email or pass it to an installer. Unsubscribe at any time.
