How solar works
Which type of solar panel should you get?
Short answer
Almost every UK domestic installation now uses monocrystalline panels, and the differences between reputable brands are small. Efficiency matters only when roof area is the binding constraint. The inverter choice and the quality of the installation affect your output more than the panel brand does.

Most household quotations use monocrystalline photovoltaic modules. Rather than choosing by the cell label alone, compare the complete module specification and the roof layout it enables.
What matters on a quotation
- panel power rating and physical dimensions;
- product and performance warranty terms;
- expected degradation stated by the manufacturer;
- fire classification and relevant certification;
- how many modules fit without using poor roof areas; and
- who handles a warranty claim if the installer ceases trading.
Higher efficiency is most valuable when usable roof area is limited. On a large clear roof, the system’s total output, installation quality and price may matter more than a small efficiency difference.
The panel warranty is not the whole-system warranty
Panels, inverter, optimiser, mounting system and workmanship can each have different terms. Ask for all of them before signing.
Compare the proposed module in the MCS product directory, then check the installer separately.

Work out the number before anyone quotes you
Every assumption editable, nothing sent anywhere, no email. It will not give you a quote, but it will tell you whether one is fair.
We are not taking quote requests yet
We will not collect your details until we can name the installers who would receive them, so there is no form here to fill in. What we can do is tell you when something changes: a scheme opening, an export rate moving, or the quote form going live.
