Not a government service. UKSolars is an independent company. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting on behalf of the UK Government, DESNZ, Ofgem, MCS or any local authority. We do not administer any grant scheme, we cannot approve an application, and we never charge for anything a government provides free.
How we are paid. We are paid a fee by installers when we introduce a homeowner who asks for a quote. It does not change your price, and we are not paid more by one installer than another for the same job. In full.
Short answer
A monthly-verified record of every UK Smart Export Guarantee tariff, separating the four variables that make published "best rates" incomparable: tied versus untied, flat versus time-of-use, open versus closed to new customers, and whether the headline rate needs a battery. Every month, each row in this table is re-read from the supplier’s own published tariff page and stamped with the date it was read. Rows that have not been re-read say so, in place, rather than being presented as current.
The row-level date shows exactly which rates were checked.
Download the 1 September 2026 CSV. It contains the rate, tariff type, tie status, battery condition, verification date, notes and primary-source URL for every published row.
Why this dataset exists
At the time of research, pages ranking in the top ten for “best SEG rate” gave the answer as 12p, 15p, 15.1p, 16.5p, 24p, 25p, 27p and 32.17p.
None of them was lying. They were conflating four independent variables:
- Tied or untied: is the rate conditional on buying your import electricity from the same supplier?
- Flat or time-of-use: a 32p peak applies for a few evening hours; solar exports at midday.
- Open or closed to new customers: several headline tariffs closed in March 2026 and are still quoted.
- Battery required: some rates are only reachable with £4,000 to £8,000 of storage.
Collapse those four into one number and you get eight different answers to the same question. Keep them apart and the question becomes answerable.
Methodology
- Source: each supplier’s own published tariff page. Comparison sites are never used.
- Cadence: every row re-read monthly.
- Dating: per row, not per page. An unverified row displays as unverified.
- Null over guess: where a rate cannot be confirmed, the cell is empty rather than carrying a figure over from elsewhere.
- Change history: appended, never rewritten.
Current verification state
All published rows were checked against the supplier’s own public tariff page on 1 September 2026. The table and downloadable CSV carry that date per row. Tariffs not displaying a reproducible numerical rate on a public supplier page are omitted rather than estimated.

This dataset is published under a Creative Commons BY 4.0 licence. Use the figures, republish the table, quote it in an article: credit UKSolars and link to this page.
Journalists: if you need a cut we have not published: rates over time, a specific supplier’s history, tied versus untied spread: ask rather than estimating it. We would rather produce it than have it reverse-engineered wrongly.
What changed, and when
The change history for this dataset lives alongside the wider funding changelog on the funding tracker, because export rates and grant schemes move for related reasons and readers rarely want one without the other.
- 1 September 2026: full supplier-page verification pass. Replaced stale E.ON, British Gas and Good Energy figures; added tied and untied options as separate rows; removed unsupported claims about tariff closure.

Every row is re-read from the supplier’s own tariff page monthly. Compare the untied column before the rate: a higher tied export rate can still lose once the import tariff is counted.
