Your roof and your property
Solar panels on a flat roof
Short answer
Flat roofs work well, with a mounting frame that tilts the panels. The two questions that decide the design are whether the structure can carry ballast and whether the membrane can be penetrated without voiding its warranty. Settle both before pricing, because they change the system.

Flat roofs can carry solar, but the roof and mounting design must be assessed together.
The survey must resolve
- structural capacity and wind loading;
- ballasted versus penetrating fixings;
- membrane warranty and drainage;
- panel tilt, row spacing and self-shading;
- safe access and edge protection; and
- applicable planning limits or prior approval.
Ballast avoids roof penetrations but adds weight. Penetrating fixings reduce ballast but must preserve weatherproofing. The right answer depends on the structure and membrane system.
Get approval from the roof-system provider
If the roof or membrane remains under warranty, obtain the required design approval before installation and keep it with the property records.

We are not taking quote requests yet
We will not collect your details until we can name the installers who would receive them, so there is no form here to fill in. What we can do is tell you when something changes: a scheme opening, an export rate moving, or the quote form going live.
