Quotes

Three quotes, from installers we name before you send anything

One quote tells you nothing. You cannot judge whether £8,400 is a fair price for a 4.4kWp system without two other numbers beside it — and the single most reliable predictor of a bad outcome in this industry is a homeowner who only ever saw one.

Not a government service. UKSolars is an independent company. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting on behalf of the UK Government, DESNZ, Ofgem, MCS or any local authority. We do not administer any grant scheme, we cannot approve an application, and we never charge for anything a government provides free.

How we are paid. We are paid a fee by installers when we introduce a homeowner who asks for a quote. It does not change your price, and we are not paid more by one installer than another for the same job. In full.

How it works when it is open

  1. Tell us about the property

Postcode, roof shape and rough electricity usage. Enough for an installer to know whether the job is worth quoting, and no more.

    You⏱ About two minutes

  2. You see exactly who would receive it

The installers are named on screen, with their company number and their MCS registration, before you agree to anything. Nothing is sent until you tick the box yourself.

  3. Up to three MCS-certified installers contact you

Three, not five, and never a call centre reselling your details onwards. One quote tells you nothing — you cannot judge whether £8,400 is fair without two other numbers beside it.

    Installers⏱ Usually 1–3 working days

  4. Each surveys before quoting properly

A quote given without seeing the roof is a guess. Expect a survey covering roof condition, shading, your consumer unit and scaffolding access — and expect all four itemised on the quote.

    Installers⏱ 1–2 weeks

  5. You compare like for like

Check that each quote states panel and inverter make and model, total kWp, the annual generation estimate with its assumptions, scaffolding, and what happens if the roof needs work.

What to check before you sign anything

This applies whoever you get your quotes from, including us. UK solar has a door-to-door sales problem, and these five checks are what separate a legitimate installer from the operators that generate the complaints.

  • The installer is on the MCS register under the company name on the quote — not a parent, not a trading name you cannot find.
  • They are registered with RECC, HIES or TrustMark, which is what gives you a route when something goes wrong.
  • The quote itemises scaffolding, the consumer unit and bird proofing. A quote missing these is not cheaper, it is incomplete.
  • The generation estimate states its assumptions — orientation, pitch, shading. A single confident number with no working is a sales figure.
  • Nobody asks you to sign today for a discount. A price that expires when the salesperson leaves your kitchen was never a real price.

Common questions

How many installers will contact me?
Up to three, and only the ones named on the form before you submit it. We do not sell shared leads to five buyers, which is the practice behind most complaints about solar quote sites.
Does using this cost me anything, or make my quote more expensive?
No. Installers pay us a fee for the introduction, and it does not change your price. We are not paid more by one installer than another for the same job, which is why we have no reason to steer you.
Can I ask you to delete my details?
Yes, at any time, and we will also tell you which installers received them so you can ask the same of each. They are separate data controllers once the introduction is made, which is set out in the agreement we hold with each of them.
What if I just want to know the price without being contacted?
Use the calculator. It runs entirely in your browser, asks for nothing, and shows every assumption behind the figure so you can change the ones that are wrong for your house.

Running a business rather than a household? Commercial solar quotes work differently — the payback is driven by your daytime load rather than by export.
