Commercial
Commercial solar quotes
A commercial array is priced on your load shape, not your roof size. Before anyone can quote sensibly they need your half-hourly consumption data, your supply capacity and an honest assessment of the roof's remaining life — which is why the three questions below matter more than the postcode.
What to have ready before you ask anyone to quote
- Twelve months of half-hourly consumption data from your supplier. This is the single input that decides the answer, and a quote produced without it is a guess dressed as a proposal.
- Your supply capacity and whether the incomer has headroom. An export-constrained connection changes the design and sometimes the viability.
- Roof age, construction and remaining life. A twenty-five year array on a roof with eight years left is a decision you make once.
- Whether you own the building or lease it, and for how long. A five-year lease and a twelve-year payback do not meet.
- Who signs. Commercial solar dies more often in procurement than in engineering.
Common questions
How is commercial payback different?
It is driven by daytime consumption rather than by export. A business running machinery, refrigeration or air conditioning through the working day uses most of what it generates at full retail value, which is why commercial paybacks are often shorter than domestic ones despite far larger capital costs.
Does 0% VAT apply to us?
No — the zero rate covers domestic installations only. Commercial projects are standard-rated, though a VAT-registered business recovers it in the normal way, and capital allowances may apply. Take your accountant's view, not ours.
What about the grid connection?
Anything at commercial scale needs G99 approval from your distribution network operator before installation rather than notification after it. Allow several weeks, and treat any project timeline that ignores it as unrealistic.
Can we get a grant?
The domestic schemes on this site do not apply to commercial premises. Commercial support is a different landscape — capital allowances, sector-specific funds and regional growth schemes — and we do not currently cover it well enough to advise on it.
